Children learn what they see - if we parents have limiting beliefs, our children will absorb them.

FEATURE ARTICLE; How To Eliminate Limiting Beliefs and =========================================================== How do you know if you have limiting beliefs or emotions about something? One good indicator might be your body!

Take a moment and think about a past stressful event that you have had in your life. Be still and get connected to the memory of that event as much you are able. Notice any feelings that you get. Notice any emotions that arise. What is the location of those feelings or emotions in your body? Rate the emotion on a scale of 1-10 where 10 is a very distressful and 1 is almost unnoticeable.

Now take a moment an think about and get into the feeling of some future event or experience. You might pick a public speaking experience or an examination you are going to have or a stressful conversation that you need to have with a loved one, friend or a colleague. Notice how that feels and the location in your body. Rate it on a scale of 1-10.

Ideally, we want to feel very little or no stress around past experiences or future imaginations. If there is stress, it is an indicator that we are holding fears, anxiety or limiting beliefs about the experience. A "little" stress for some things can actually be "good", because it encourages us to get prepared for the experience, but high stress or anxiety is seldom useful. When we are in high stress or fear, we will tend to go into fight-flight-freeze responses of the "hind-brain". This can be useful if for example we are attacked by a tiger, but is usually a limiting behavior in other circumstances.

If in these exercises you find an area of high stress, then I invite you to create a affirmation/belief statement using the format described in the Refreshing Beliefs E-book and change the belief in your favorite way. You might also consider releasing the emotion using The Tapping Solution or another emotional release process.

For some people or some experiences there will be no feelings or emotions in the body. This can mean that there is no limiting emotion or belief around this memory or experience. However, it could also mean that the person is dissociated from the emotion or feeling. Dissociation from our emotions may also not be healthy because the stresses still might be held by us and effect us, but we are unable to feel them. Some people have subconsciously learned to shut down their emotions as a child to conform to certain beliefs of the family unit or for self preservation. Emotional expression is natural and healthy in when in balance. Too much expression(stress/trauma) or too little (disconnect and dissociation) is not functional in the long term.
